The Story Behind
ZipDownloader
Hey there, I'm Waseem, a Senior Software Engineer and Data Security Advocate. I've spent the last 12 years building secure infrastructure for enterprise applications. In 2025, I found myself incredibly frustrated. I needed to quickly merge a few PDFs containing sensitive financial data for a client, and every single website I found either demanded my email address, slapped a giant watermark on my file, or posed a massive security risk by uploading my data to unknown servers.
I realized that basic file management-converting images, zipping folders, compressing documents-shouldn't require compromising your privacy or paying a premium. It should be a secure public utility. That's why I leveraged my background in distributed systems to build ZipDownloader.
How do we guarantee security? Instead of routing your private files to expensive, hackable server farms, we built ZipDownloader using modern WebAssembly (Wasm) and HTML5 APIs. This means the heavy lifting actually happens right inside your own web browser. Your files never leave your device. It's wildly fast, impenetrable to server hacks, and most importantly: you remain in complete control of your data.
